This is an opportunity to either grow the company or slow down. you can grow the company by giving him a raise retaing him and having a loyal employee or tell him to walk get a new apprentice and start training all over again and everything go a lot slower.

I was bluffing and my super called me out on it so I put in my two weeks anyway. Construction will always be a stepping stone, not a life career. Everyone that’s made it a career is miserable and hates their families and that’s if they still talk.

Mr. Osbourn :
if he would join a union he wouldnt have to ask for a raise. apprentices start at 50% journeyman wages then get a 20-25% raise for each year they pass until they top out.

either he's worth the raise or he's not and if he's not you should be able to find someone to replace them. an employer and employee are always in a tug of war. the employers job is to make sure the employee can't find a better job and the employees job is to make sure the employer can't find a better worker. if both are doing their job the company soars it's when one or both don't live up to the agreement that something fails

He knows the game good for him and the fact that you are debating he needs a raise shows he probably should have already gotten it.. otherwise you woulda shut canned him!
