@c5news: Court heard how driver failed to dislodge the cyclist from his 4X4, so kept driving. Video of the moment a driver overtook a car before he allegedly hit a headteacher and dragged him more than a mile to his death has been released. Michael Mullins, 56, was allegedly struck by a Volvo XC90 as he cycled home from Stretford Grammar School in Manchester on 20 April. Simon Richardson, 35, denies murder as well as the alternative charges of manslaughter and dangerous driving and is currently on trial at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court. Prosecutors said Richardson did not stop after the crash and instead “put his foot down” reaching 60mph in a 30mph zone. Mr Mullins, a married father-of-two, was dragged along the road after his foot became entangled in the vehicle’s suspension. Prosecutors claim Richardson stopped and tried to dislodge the injured, but “still-living” cyclist, before giving up and carrying on with Mr Mullins still trapped underneath. After more than a mile, the headteacher became dislodged from the vehicle and was discovered lying on a grass verge in Lymm, Cheshire – 2.2km from the collision. The Crown say Richardson “veered sharply and deliberately from side to side” before his vehicle mounted the verge. It also claims Richardson then drove over Mr Mullins at least once before he was finally dislodged Mr Mullins was treated by paramedics but declared dead at the scene 40 minutes later. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) on Tuesday released a 17-second video of the incident which was previously shown to the jury. The clip appears to show Richardson’s Volvo following two vehicles before overtaking them on Dunham Road. The CPS also released an image of Richardson behind the wheel of the Volvo, allegedly captured by an ANPR camera moments after the crash. The trial continues. #5news #cyclist #manchester
