South Africa is not going anywhere as long as tribalism and hatred continue to divide us, especially hatred towards Zulu people. It is painful to see Zulu people being insulted even when they speak up or take action because they believe they are trying to save this country.
Sometimes, it seems that people can see the value in what Zulu people are saying or doing, but they refuse to acknowledge it simply because it comes from a Zulu person. If an idea is right, it should be recognised as right regardless of the tribe of the person who expresses it.
What hurts the most is that, as Black people, we continue to allow tribalism to divide us. Some people act as though their tribes are superior to others, forgetting that no tribe is better than another. We cannot demand respect from others while refusing to respect one another.
How can we build a better South Africa if we are constantly fighting each other because of our tribal identities? We need to stop judging people based on their tribes and start judging them by their actions, principles and intentions.
I am proud of being Zulu, but I also believe that every Black South African deserves respect, regardless of their background. Our country will never reach its full potential if we allow tribal hatred to stand in the way of unity. We are stronger together, but divided, we only weaken ourselves. South Africa belongs to all of us, and it is time we started acting like it.
