@charleybournetruecrime: The Crazy Case Of Levan Merritt ❤️‍🩹 The tragic news of a man entering a tiger enclosure here in the UK recently reminded me of another shocking zoo incident from the 1980s. 5 year old Levan Merritt fell into the gorilla enclosure at Jersey Zoo, where he was approached by a silverback gorilla named Jambo. As visitors watched in fear, Jambo appeared to stand guard over the unconscious child, and when Levan began to cry, the gorillas moved away, allowing keepers to rescue him. Miraculously, Levan survived. Although these two incidents had very different outcomes, they both serve as a sobering reminder of how dangerous encounters with wild animals can be. Jambo's actions became famous around the world and challenged people's perceptions of gorillas, showing a side of these incredible animals that many never expected to see. Omg I was going to say if my husband dropped our kid into a zoo enclosure with dangerous animals and didn’t immediately jump in after it would legit be his last day on earth. But I guess that probably wouldn’t have gone as well.

Jambo was absolutely massive. His hand was bigger than my professors head, I met him not long before he passed in 91 at 31yrs old. he was truly a gentle gorilla and spent time with his own babies, I wrote an essay for animal behaviour qualifications on him. His behaviour that day was amazing, he kept the others from coming near, protecting him all the time

at the Brookfield zoo in Illinois in 1996(?) i think. A litte boy fell in to a female gorillas enclosure after he fell in she started to hold him like she would a baby gorilla and keep him safe until zoo keepers came and got him out
