@nvy1718: First of all, I respect Thai culture and history, and I have nothing against Thailand. As a Burmese person, I am well aware of the long history between Myanmar (Burma) and Lanna (Northern Thailand), including the fact that Myanmar ruled Lanna for more than 200 years. However, the clothing shown in the Scarlet Heart Thailand series is not from the period when Myanmar ruled Lanna, but rather traditional Myanmar clothing from the Konbaung Dynasty (Amarapura & Yadanarbon periods). But using traditional Burmese Htaingmathein from the Konbaung era and portraying it as Lanna culture in "Scarlet Heart Thailand" without acknowledging its Myanmar origin is deeply disrespectful. We know there are historical and cultural connections between Lanna / Tai Yuan and Shan from Myanmar, and that’s not what we’re questioning. The issue is presenting distinctly Burmese traditional clothing as Thai Lanna culture. Cultural appreciation should never come at the cost of erasing another culture’s identity.
