@feljin_jose: Is this building derelict? According to the law, it's not. We have a serious problem with dereliction in this country and the threshold for what can be deemed derelict is too high. The government is replacing the Derelict Sites Levy with a new Derelict Property Tax collected by Revenue. It's not enough to just change how the derelict sites levy is collected, we need to take this opportunity to change the legal threshold of dereliction so that owners of buildings like these can be made to bring these properties back into life. A few weeks ago, I brought a motion to Dublin City Council asking to write to the Minister asking for these changes because the current legislation isn't fit for purpose. #Dublin #Ireland #derelict #irishhouses #irish
Thank you for clarifying!! I was actually naive enough to assume that all unoccupied, dilapidated buildings like this were automatically on the Derelict Buildings Register.
What qualifies as Derelict definitely needs to be redefined!!

huge issue is that once they initiate any works ANY works at all they come off the register. they can just argue they ran out of money etc... there has to be a higher threshold

The first thing should be done is no discount on rates for empty retail units , 100% amount to be paid. Empty houses after 12 months should have 200% LPT charged, 300% on year 2, 400% on year 3 etc. that will encourage sales or it to be used.

The entire country, from villages to city, is blighted by dereliction, and nothing will change while the landowner class runs the country. Get registered to vote, everyone, every young person in particular. There’s a reason you feel like it’s pointless and that’s done on purpose to make sure you’d rather emigrate - vote.

There's over 50k empty properties in Ireland , not newly built, if you change the definition of dereliction, you'd be forcing the government to take responsibility for these properties. That requires them to do work.

Yes and!!!! The definition of dereliction is different if you're applying for the derelict property grant! Detracting from the character (which what even is that 🙄) doesn't even come into play if you're looking for the derelict property grant. It has to be considered structurally unsound, but can have trees growing out, no water or electricity and apparently that's grand
