AN OPEN LETTER TO GMMTV: RESPECT MYANMAR’S CULTURAL HERITAGE 🇲🇲 As a BL fan, I enjoy GMMTV’s series and genuinely support the artists I love. However, regarding the recent controversy surrounding Myanmar traditional attire, I cannot remain silent. I am a BL fan, but I am also a Myanmar citizen who values my country’s history, culture, and heritage. Supporting my favorite artists does not mean I must blindly accept everything. I can continue loving and supporting them while speaking up for my country. These two things are not mutually exclusive. To be clear, this is not about attacking the actors, spreading hate, or starting fanwars. The artists should not be held responsible for production decisions they may not have made. The focus should be on the decisions themselves and the people responsible for them. Our concern is the use and representation of attire believed to be connected to Myanmar’s historical and cultural heritage. Traditional clothing can carry significant historical meaning and reflect a nation’s identity. Therefore, questions about the origins, historical context, and representation of these garments deserve serious consideration. This is not an attempt to disrespect Thai culture or claim that one culture is superior to another. Both Thai and Myanmar cultures deserve recognition and respect. Acknowledging one country’s heritage should never require overlooking another’s. I respectfully call on GMMTV to take the following actions: • Review the historical background and origins of the attire used in the production. • Provide clear explanations regarding the cultural and historical references behind the costume designs. • Listen to the concerns raised by Myanmar fans and address them respectfully. • Take appropriate responsibility and work toward a meaningful resolution. • If an immediate resolution is not possible, issue an official statement explaining GMMTV’s position and the steps it intends to take regarding this matter. We are not seeking conflict. We are asking for transparency, accountability, and respect for our cultural heritage. I will continue to support the artists I love. However, my support for them does not mean I should remain silent when concerns arise about my country’s history and culture. I can love my artists without remaining silent about my country’s heritage. GMMTV, please take these concerns seriously, review this matter carefully, and provide a clear response.
