@philosophyminis: We should never laugh at somebody for not knowing something, because people are not born knowing anything. If you happen to know something that someone else does not, that just means that you have had an educational opportunity that they have not yet had. And so to say, “I can't believe you didn't know that,” is the same thing as saying, “I can't believe you didn't live the same life as me.” This is one of the implications of John Locke's strong empiricism. Today we assume that most people learn from experience, but this hasn't always been the case. Plato viewed knowledge as a kind of recollection that our souls once knew, and Descartes thought that we are all born with certain innate ideas. Innate ideas are those that we are supposedly born with, without experience. But John Locke thought this was all absurd, because if there were innate ideas, then everybody in the world would believe them. But there will always be some exception somewhere. As John Locke put it, “There will always be a child or an idiot who disagrees with that idea.” And secondly, even if we could find some universal belief or knowledge, this doesn't prove that it is innate, but rather just universal. And so instead, Locke argues that we should view the human mind as a blank slate or a blank page, and so everything that we learn is like a pen writing on this page. Everything we know starts with experience. Empiricism tells us that all of our ideas come from our environment. We do not know things because of our race or our gender or our biology. Everything that we know and all of the ideas in our head come from the world that we have been exposed to. They come from our learning experiences, and to laugh at somebody who doesn't know something is simply to laugh at their life.

laughing at those who wouldn't be humble enough to admit they don't know and act like they know is not the same as laughing at some for not not knowing the later is the problem the former should be normalised. admit you don't know when you don't know.

I've come to aware that not everyone is as fortunate as I am. I was lucky enough to grow up with wonderful parents who could afford to give me a good education and a supportive environment in which to learn and grow That's why I believe we should stop judging people so harshly for making mistakes or doing things we consider stupid Because I genuinely believe that if they knew better, many of them would have made different choices. Sometimes, they simply don't know, and perhaps no one has ever been patient enough to teach them I often think that if those same people had been born into my family, raised by my parents, and given the same opportunities I had, they might have turned out completely differently We often judge people for what they don't know, without realizing how fortunate we were to have someone who taught us Sometimes, people don't need judgment. They just need someone willing to teach them what they were never given the chance to learn

Great teaching. What do we do or say to those who choose to be ignorant and are not willing or open to learning?

But sometimes privileged people willingly resist the opportunity to learn and their lack of knowledge is just a pure and blatant sign of ignorance.

this was true before the internet. now everybody has a plethora of learning opportunities and so many people just don't take them. they never look up things, read articles about new things, watch educational videos, etc. they are not curious to learn

not necessarily to laugh at their life but to also Laugh at their ignorance, gullibility and servitude to unrealistic claims. because some people see evidence, knowledge, truth and ignore them simple because it doesn't align with ther ego, feeling ms or perspective.
