According to police, the incident happened early on October 13, 2026, after Patel reportedly received an alarm about a suspected break-in at his store. Investigators allege Patel followed Hunter, who was riding an electric bicycle, and deliberately struck him with his vehicle. Police say the driver left the scene without initially reporting the collision. Hunter was later found unresponsive in a ditch along Cocoanut Grove Avenue. He suffered multiple skull fractures and other critical injuries before being taken to hospital for treatment. On October 17, Hunter's family made the heartbreaking decision to withdraw life support.
