‎NAA SALMA PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE WA NAA AHEAD OF HIS TRIP TO DORIMON ‎ ‎The Paramount Chief of the Wungu Traditional Area and leader of the Nayiri's delegation to Dorimon, Mba Wun-Naa Salma, paid a historic courtesy call on the Wa Naa at his palace earlier this morning 5th November 2026, ahead of his onward journey to Dorimon in the Upper West Region. ‎ ‎In keeping with traditional protocol and mutual respect between traditional authorities, Mba Naa Salma could not have passed through Wa without formally acknowledging the Wa Naa. ‎ ‎During the visit, the Secretary to the Wa Naa, Jenpihi Naa Kadri, seized the opportunity to share an account of the historical origins of the Waala people, highlighting their historical connections with Mamprugu. ‎ ‎According to Jenpihi Naa Kadri, the Waala chieftaincy is an offshoot of Mamprugu. He recounted that a Mamprusi prince known as Soale, whom the Mamprusi also call Sulemana, migrated from Mamprugu after an unsuccessful attempt to ascend the Nayiri's skin. He travelled westwards in search of his destiny and eventually established the Waala State. ‎ ‎Prince Soale and his followers are said to have first settled at a community they named Gbetori, which, according to the account, means Gbewaa in the Waala language. This they did to preserve their lineage a connection to the Gbewaa dynasty. They subsequently migrated to their present settlement at Wa. Gbetori was retained to preserve the memory of their ancestral origins. To this day, the Wa Naa enskins a prince of good standing as the Gbetori Naa. ‎ ‎Jenpihi Naa Kadri further recounted that years after Prince Soale and his followers had left Mamprugu, the Nayiri sent emissaries to search for them. Upon locating the prince, the emissaries conveyed the Nayiri's message requesting his return to Mamprugu. ‎ ‎However, Prince Soale was content with the territory he had established. Overwhelmed with excitement, he reportedly responded by dancing and told the emissaries to return to the Nayiri with the words

Overwhelmed with excitement, he reportedly responded by dancing and told the emissaries to return to the Nayiri with the words "man waarila wa," meaning, "I am dancing." ‎ ‎In Mampruli, the word "Wa" means dance. According to this historical account, Prince Soale's expression eventually became associated with the name of the settlement, which is today known as Wa, the regional capital of the Upper West Region. ‎ ‎This highlights the historical connections, shared heritage and enduring traditional relationships between Mamprugu and the Waala state. ‎ ‎The best tradition lives on! ‎©Mamprugu Kaya Ni Ta'ada  ‎💪👑🐘🐘🐘 ‎#mamprusitiktokersoffcial #mamprusitiktokersoffcial #nalerigutiktok🥰 #heritagemonth #culture
