@intentional.anna: nobody warns you how much harder adhd can get once you have kids 🤍 here’s what so many parents wish someone had told them: the sensory overload and emotional dysregulation that come with adhd don’t stay the same when you have children — they ramp up. the constant noise, the touch, the never-ending demands, the zero minutes of silence… an adhd nervous system that’s already extra-sensitive to input hits overwhelm fast, and goes from calm to fried in seconds. add in any trauma from your own past, and parenting has a way of surfacing every trigger you didn’t know you still carried. that’s not a character flaw. an underactive “braking” system and an overactive alarm system mean big feelings come fast and take longer to recover from — especially with no chance to decompress. and this is the important part: having triggers does not make you a bad parent. the work isn’t being triggerless — it’s learning to notice the overload early, protect pockets of quiet to regulate, and be gentle about the fact the triggers exist at all. regulation before reasoning, for them and for you. 💬 fellow neurodivergent parents — what helps you find even five minutes of quiet? save this and send it to one who needs to hear they’re not failing. 🎙️: @celestemariamiller #adhdinwomen #neurodivergentparenting #adhdparent #neurodivergent #latediagnosedadhd

Jane :
I also wish people would stop responding with “you chose to have kids” when you tell them what you’re struggling with. I DID choose to have kids. I don’t regret it. I just didn’t know I would struggle with this.

I was diagnosed at 33 because I can’t do what I used to do. I thought I was going crazy!
