@heyokihistory: Jagdtiger: The 72-Ton Tank Destroyer That Beat Itself The Jagdtiger was the heaviest armored fighting vehicle used in combat in World War II. It weighed 72 tons, carried a 128 mm gun and had 250 mm of front armor. It was built at the Nibelungenwerk in St. Valentin, Austria. 150 were ordered, but only about 70 to 88 were finished. On 9 April 1945, one company firing from hull-down positions knocked out 11 tanks in a Sherman column, some from more than 4,000 m away, according to the unit's own accounts. But the Jagdtiger had the same engine as the King Tiger and carried even more weight. Its transmission broke easily, it ran short of fuel, and a crewman had to climb out to unlock the gun before it could fire. More Jagdtigers were lost to breakdowns and empty fuel tanks than to the enemy. In Otto Carius's company of 10, only one was lost in combat. #jadgtiger #ww2 #History #fyp #animation
