@earthsignalofficial: October 20, 2026 | Worldwide A heat storm lasted 367 days. 🌍 Heat Storm Vera, the record holder, ran from July 29, 2023, to July 29, 2024, and touched nearly 85% of Earth over its lifetime. At its peak, it covered almost a third of the planet at once. "Heat storm" is a term created by Reuters for its new investigation: any heat wave that grows to cover at least 1% of the planet. Reuters analyzed hourly temperatures worldwide since 1960 and found that heat storms have surged from about 5 a year in the 1960s to about 102 a year this decade. A chain of overlapping heat storms that began in July 2008 has never stopped, so at least one has been active somewhere every single day for more than 18 years. The 85% is the total area Vera touched over its lifetime, not all at once. Image is an editorial visualization.
