@katetatooartistinchicago: I wanted to share a quick little educational post, as I often have people inquiring about coverups — especially potential coverups that could benefit from a few sessions of laser removal BEFORE tattooing over it a second time. Megan started with the original sunflower tattoo, and did not love it. She had 8-10 sessions of laser over the course of several years to remove it almost completely. When she inquired about getting it covered, her original tattoo was barely there, aside from some stubborn black ink left behind and a little bit of unwanted pigmentation. THIS is what your tattoo artist is talking about when they suggest laser before just blasting over your unwanted tattoo with something bigger and/or darker. If she would have came to me with the original tattoo, I wouldn't have taken this on. Her options would have been insanely limited as far as coverups go. If you are going back and forth on laser or just trying to cover something that's already dark, laser is almost always the better option. While I understand it's not a cost effective or fast method, it can ensure that you end up with a tattoo that you absolutely love.
