Another thing I really hate about calling out the the Hindu nationalism is people will like try to cancel it out with oppression olympics of Hindu minorities facing discrimination in places like Bangladesh- which is a real horrific thing but we should be calling out all oppression ??

I told my parents I didn't want to go to Shakti Mandir for prayer because they're Hindu nationalists and I got yelled at for 5 minutes for being disrespectful to our culture

when you tell hindus even over here in the states, even the younger generation, this and their deep rooted classism and xenophobia of other religions, they’ll say it doesn’t exist while they go argue about chai tea and “scandinavian scarves”

THIS ABSOLUTELY!!! And it’s even crazier and more interesting how this ties with casteism too!! The majority of the Indian people who immigrated to the US specifically are considered socially to be of the highest castes in Indian society, this was done incredibly intentionally both by India and the United States, it’s not necessarily the citizens’ faults but I digress. The people of these “highest castes” are the same people who are Hindu nationalists or complicit in nationalism because Hindu nationalists SUPPORT them and vice versa. They support people who support their existence of high class in higher society, even if that existence also accounts for the oppression of millions of others. It is absolute absurdity that we aren’t even able to acknowledge the root of our issues, otherwise we will never be able to actually progress as a group of people.

It’s no different than Christian nationalism it’s all the same tbh. The disregard and disrespect of other religions and marginalized communities and people

I’m not Indian, but I remember learning abt this for the first time from a bunch of Hindu Tamil international students I knew in college. Bc another girl we knew, was Hindu Tamil American and was a fan of modi. And I remember them all just ripping into her for that. I hope they’re doing well.
