Leeds Crown Court heard that Alan Pearce, of Priestley Avenue, Heckmondwike, targeted the young child between 1983 and 1985. The survivor bravely came forward to report the historic abuse in 2021, launching an extensive inquiry by Kirklees child safeguarding detectives. Following Pearce's arrest in January 2023, he denied the allegations and forced the case to trial. A jury found him guilty of rape and three counts of indecent assault on 3 August. On 19 October 2026, the Crown Court judge handed Pearce 14 years in prison with a one-year extended licence and an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
