Having a family shield does not mean you come from royalty. It means that at some point in time, your family did something noble. They were knighted in some way. My family fought in 1066 for William the conqueror. Everyone that fought with him was knighted and given a family shield. That doesn’t mean I’m of noble birth because it’s 2026 and the battle of Hastings was 1066. Too far away.
