"Don’t Go Breaking My Heart" is an infectious, buoyant pop-disco duet by Elton John and English singer Kiki Dee. Released in the summer of 1976, the track was written by Elton John and his longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin under the playful pseudonyms "Ann Orson" and "Carte Blanche." Conceived as an affectionate homage to the classic Motown duets of the 1960s—particularly the work of Marvin Gaye with Tammi Terrell and Kim Weston—the song stands out for its lively orchestral strings, upbeat rhythm, and irresistible vocal chemistry. Upon its release, the track became a monumental commercial triumph on both sides of the Atlantic. It gave Elton John his very first UK number-one single, topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks, and reached the summit in numerous countries around the world. The song's promotional video—featuring Elton in his signature tinted glasses and a casual Los Angeles Dodgers cap singing face-to-face with a radiant Kiki Dee—captured a genuine, unpretentious charm and playful banter that endeared the duo to millions of viewers. Nearly five decades later, "Don’t Go Breaking My Heart" remains one of the most beloved and celebrated duets in pop music history. Its joyful melody, soaring chorus, and feel-good energy have turned it into an enduring radio classic and a perennial favorite across generations, cementing its place as a definitive soundtrack to the golden era of 1970s pop. #eltonjohn #kikidee #eltonjohnandkikidee #70smusic #70s - @rhythmcaptions
