The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou, China officially opened to traffic on 28 September 2025, setting a new world record with a 625-metre drop from its deck to the canyon floor. The massive suspension bridge stretches 2,890 metres in total length, with a 1,420-metre main span, and has slashed travel time across the canyon from nearly two hours to just two minutes. Before opening, engineers tested its structural safety by driving 96 heavy trucks loaded with over 3,300 tonnes across the deck, amongst others. Beyond its function as a key expressway link, the bridge also doubles as a tourism landmark. Its equipped with a spectacular water-curtain system, over 300 metres long, spraying jets almost 100 metres high, combined with laser projection and lighting to create a “canyon IMAX” night-show above the gorge.
