Smart Choices to save then invest: I bought the DeLonghi Maestosa Fully Automatic Coffee Machine. Coffee beans As a Family of 4 adults we drink around 200 cups of coffee per month. We drink coffee at home or take homemade coffee for walks, drives, and to work. Smart choice so we can invest on smart $$ investments

I'd say those are "investments" into my good mood, which is good enough

I agree that it’s overused and people need to be honest with themselves. However, “buy it nice or buy it twice” is sometimes good advice too.

I think you’re conflating financial investments with investments in quality of life. Not every return on investment needs to be monetary. Time saved, convenience, confidence, enjoyment, and improved well-being all have value. The purpose of building wealth is ultimately to improve the quality of our lives, not simply to accumulate the largest possible number in a brokerage account. You can invest in your financial future while also investing in your present happiness. And frankly, not every purchase needs to be financially productive to be worthwhile.

Language is never this rigid, you’re narrowing the word down too much. “Investment” in terms of lifestyle just means “buy it nice or buy it twice”. Don’t spend money on 50 products when you can pay once for a good service/product and safe up in the long run. A nice winter coat that looks good, makes you feel good, is made well and lasts a lifetime is worth more than a hundred zara coats. One laser treatment will do more that 30 skin care products. Etc etc

I think it depends. I have naturally curly hair but used to always straighten it. So getting a Dyson is an investment in my hair health. I use it after every time I shower since I got it 2 years ago. My dad loves coffe so he bought a ridiculously expensive coffe mashine that makes coffe for at least 4 people daily usually several times a day. I hated my cheap bedsheets at home so when I moved out I bought ridiculously expensive one (with good quality too I’m not stupid) and it’s the best thing I’ve done. Spending more money can sometimes be an investment if it significantly improves your life quality/health. However I for ex just started running bec I don’t like going to the gym so getting a gym membership is stupid for me. I don’t own any running shoes yet and at first I thought I had to buy some before I go running, but I can just start running and when I feel I’ll be consistent with it then I can buy accessories. (My normal shoes are very comfy to run in). Also I love buying expensive makeup and hair care. I noticed when I buy good quality products I didn’t buy other things. Now I own 2 bronzers 1 blush 1 foundation 1 concealer and 1 mascara. Instead of the huge bag I used to own. It was an investment because I buy less if things I know I use every day

Yes!! I think what people are confusing the term ‘investment’ with in these scenarios is ‘savings’ because yes if you purchase something of higher quality in the long run if you look after it you’ll save yourself money on repurchasing lower quality replacements BUT we need to call it what it is. A purchase with potential for making savings in the long run!

I disagree - if I ‘invest’ in a good coat, I get a great cost per wear and it it enhances my life. YES - it’s not a financial investment - but it IS an investment. If I buy plastic I have to replace frequently. Isnt everything we buy an investment? Anything you spend your money is an investment.

DYSON is an investment for me, because I do my hair in 20 minutes max, that saves a lot of time for me, so I can make more money during that time.

Ironically some of these things aren’t bad investments. An air wrap might stop you getting blow drys so you save money that way, a Charlotte Simone jacket could be resold for more than you paid for it so free money. I understand they don’t return an actual dividend but they’re not always bad financially
