I’m switching to D4 b/c I’m not able to get the scotch as much anymore at 1300. As black, im going to switch to C6 in response to E4 since people prob aren’t as comfortable with it as e5

I disagree with "do not study Magnus or elite grandmaster games" studying their games gives you idea in the game. when i was 1500 I watch and read elite grandmaster games and pop up to 1900. it shows that if you study their idea & playstyle you will eventually have a understanding of the game

I started playing chess a few days ago, i've been playing against the chess.com bot and lasting really long and getting draws usually. Anyway, i thought of starting to play against actual people but before that i wanted to learn a few openings, but some guy had been playing for two years and he's now 2000 elo and his advice was instead of using openings.. Spend your time watching YouTube videos of people playing and explaining what they're doing and over time you'll understand the logic or the base. So do you recommend? Do you think i don't need an opening?
