@thesunnahguy: Someone says something that upsets you. Maybe they disrespect you, question your intentions or make a comment that gets under your skin. The conversation ends. They go about their day. But you don't. You spend the next few hours replaying what happened. Thinking about what you should've said. Trying to work out what they meant. Getting angry about something that isn't even happening anymore. And the strange thing is, every time you replay that conversation, you're allowing yourself to experience the same frustration all over again. A thirty-second interaction has now taken up five hours of your life. Because you've continued the conversation in your own head. I think we massively underestimate how much unnecessary suffering we create by refusing to let certain moments pass. Once something has been dealt with, or you've decided it isn't worth addressing, you have to learn to leave it there. Because your time, your attention and your emotional energy are far too valuable to keep spending on things you cannot change. You can't always stop someone from saying something that hurts you. But you can stop giving their words a place to live in your head long after they've finished speaking. Don't let a moment that lasted thirty seconds take away the peace you could've enjoyed for the rest of your day.
