honestly 10/10 analogy, I just hosted a Halloween party (that went amazing) but since then I can't stop thinking like "I wish I had gone more all out with decorations" or "I wish I had more themed food", meanwhile everyone was social and dancing and had fun. Its so easy to get caught up in the appearances of it all

I totally agree. I think starting with a top desk vibe and transitioning people into a bottom deck vibe is especially memorable (and a whole skill set of its own).

Fun decorations, comfort food and chocolate cake. If you come for dinner you’re getting chicken pot pie and salad and it will be fantastic but very low effort for me. I always set a fun table with lots of candles.

As someone who loved events and puts on a lot of great ones I think some people really are just bad hosts and bad vibes curators. They may be a good friend, a lovely person, and have many other strengths but not everyone is good at bringing people together and curating an enjoyable space. Even a professionally decorated/ aesthetic event will fall flat if the host doesn’t bring the right energy and set the tone. Also being thoughtful about the guests in attendance and their experience is key
