North West businessman Suliman Carrim is facing charges for allegedly attempting to smuggle two bank-financed vehicles into Malawi. Police intercepted the vehicles at the Beitbridge border post in Musina after they were transported from Mahikeng. Investigations reveal that after failing to secure official bank authorization for cross-border travel, fraudulent bank papers were reportedly used. Carrim has been added to existing cases and is set to appear in court in Musina. Two other suspects in connection with the incident remain in custody. #SulimanCarrim #VehicleSmuggling #Beitbridge #SAPS #CourtCase
African National Congress (ANC) National Chairperson Gwede Mantashe has responded to calls for a public apology from the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) over remarks the league described as disturbing, derogatory and unacceptable. The ANCWL has condemned his alleged utterances and demanded an immediate and unconditional retraction. However, Mantashe says the league has not approached him directly to discuss the controversy, leaving him questioning what he is expected to apologise for. “The ANCWL has not engaged me directly on this matter,” he said, adding that he did not know what he was being asked to apologise for. The disagreement has brought tensions between the ANC chairperson and the party’s women’s structure into the public spotlight. While the ANCWL has called for accountability over the remarks, Mantashe has highlighted what he describes as a lack of direct communication from the league’s leadership. The dispute raises questions about how disagreements within the governing party should be handled, particularly when public statements and demands for apologies precede direct engagement between the parties. It remains unclear whether the ANCWL will seek a formal meeting with Mantashe or maintain its demand for a public apology.
