deeply misogynistic also doesn't make sense seeing as this would be the end of the Heroes journey. Therefore at the end you're just dissatisfied with your achievement

Is this an unnecessarily abstract way of explaining how your goal might not actually be what you desire?

It makes sense because we also see this inwardly too. Kristeva’s theory of abjection is key to this!! The disgust + revulsion we feel with experiences of rotting, bodies, flesh and deteriorating from norms is a split of the self, we run from these parts of the ‘I’ - in vomit, flesh, death and blood. Only these abject things - that come from ourselves - do we have the capacity to feel both love and disgust for, like our own flesh and blood. We constantly run from these things, scared of them, run from the collapse of the boundaries between object (outside world) and subject (us). We cast off abject parts of ourselves constantly to prove we are still intact, alive. no wonder desire rots if abjection is to be by nature a shared human condition

i dont really understand this. e.g. does this only pertain to people? the quote says it doesnt have to be a person, but how can a treasure that is won desire things/be "tainted by the flesh"? and if it does only pertain to people that are "claimed" by another, how does it slot into the heroes journey that traditionally doesnt necessitate a person being the reward? the whole thing is confusing me since it sounds like the madonna whore complex, but its stated as if it were a universal experience, which it definitely isnt but at some parts it does sound deeper than the madonna whore complex (e.g. the desire to run when the ideal breaks apart)

think people just need to underestimate their physical needs a bit more as things to not necessarily act upon, or even as things that don't necessarily have to manipulate the mind. I think a bit more guidance to the thought we cultivate and a more self nurturing behaviour, is most important to evolve without having to feel neither attraction nor repulsion.

this is why Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy is often regarded as a “great love story”. Their deaths don’t give their love the chance to die — it’s immortalized. They’ve escaped mutability and catalyzed a change in others

I’m not sure I completely follow, but I don’t think ‘flesh’ is completely literal. Flesh as in real. An idealized fantasy of a person, a lifestyle, an object etc vs the real thing which comes with its own set of flaws. Very relevant to a male hero’s relationship to an idealized woman, but not exclusively applicable to this.
