you should be cutting wood for the following year not the upcoming winter. having it sit, cut, split and stacked will let it dry and give you much better heat and cleaner stove and chimney

Some states or even counties make it illegal to collect rainwater. Because it’s less money for them. Then, if they get really picky, they’ll send the EPA out to you and the EPA will say something like “ you are disturbing the natural run off pathways ….. “ blah, blah. But, there is a natural way of cooling off your house with pipes ( amish ac ). If you take that method and aim one end of the pipe at a stainless steel or copper plate ( powered by a small fan in the pipe ) and the cool air will cause condensation on the plate. If you have it tilted , the condensation will run down and you can collect that water also. Just think of how much water forms on the outside of a glass of cold water when you take it outside- or even in a warm room. And you could set up several of the water stations to collect water even faster.

fire wood should be 2 years old…one year old is bad for the chimney and gives less heat so you need much more wood.

Beautiful place. Cool thing to do for the winter is put a bunch of rocks under your fire place. They will radiate heat if the fires low.
