pain is 100% objective im sure I have pain but I have gotten used to the pain so the 8 went to down to a like 3 but its my normal now.

I’m a nurse and was helping a family member that was inpatient (she had terminal lung cancer that had metastasized). I didn’t tell anyone I’m a nurse. Her nurse tried to shame her for asking for pain medicine for a cough. I stepped into the hall w that nurse and the charge nurse and reminded her of the pt condition which included several tumors on her ribs. So literally every time she coughed it felt like her bones were breaking. And she’s terminal… she was going to die WAY before she could get addicted. I stayed calm on the outside but was seething.

I have never rated anything a 10/10 for a couple of reasons. I don't want yall to judge me or call me a drug seeker and I'm reserving that spot. There were a few times where I came very close to a 10/10, but I will always lie and downplay my pain. I remember one specific time that I had an IO awake and I started crying and moaning because it hurt so bad and the doctor told me to "stop crying, it doesn't hurt that bad, and I needed to stop yelling because I was making my vital signs go bad." Ever since then, I lie. Most nurses at my hospital know me though and know that I will not complain, so they just bring in the pain meds when they are due. Shout out to the nurses.

my daily pain is a 7 (chronic pain) so if I say I need pain meds in hospital at 9 or 10 but I'm lying there or on my phone I'm still in pain just trying to distract myself from feeling like I am actively dying

I like the pain scale, cause I can gauge and ask the patients if that's their normal etc. and it lets me know if they get Tylenol versus dilaudid

I had an obgyn nurse that told me to “suck it up” while in labor with my oldest. She said I was acting dramatic. Like ma’am my son was in the top 99% of big mf head, of course I’m not faking it

soooo, how do we replicate a million of you?? I'm a chronic pain patient, have been for years. i have been in pain for 17 days now, been referred to the er 3 times now by my pm dr. because it's more than my baseline ever is and not the same kind of pain. finally had an er Dr last night say I don't think it's what they keep thinking, I think it's this instead. got me comfortable finally before running tests and have me a tentative diagnosis and a referral to urologist/surgeon to confirm. that hopefully happens in 2 weeks.

For a 38 y/o female fighting an incurable disease that causes me chronic pain, I applaud you! Having to lay in a hospital bed where some nurses question your pain level and the meds the doctor has ordered makes having this illness worse than having to deal with it every day! I have waited until I was almost dying before going into the hospital because I have had so much judgement from nurses about my pain meds. This leaves a lot of stress on my mom who helps me, because she knows I should be in the hospital way before I will agree to go! So thank you for being an amazing nurse! 🙏💕

I'm not withholding ordered pain meds, PERIOD. if the provider has beef w it, they can monitor the pts MAR and reevaluate the order. otherwise I'm dosing my pt as per their request and per the order
