@sfstandard: Bay Area transit is running out of money. Would you pay more in sales tax to keep the trains and buses running? Prop. RTM would raise sales taxes in five Bay Area counties for 14 years, generating nearly $1 billion annually for BART, Muni, Caltrain and other transit agencies. Supporters say it's necessary to avoid major service cuts. Opponents say transit agencies need to rein in spending before asking taxpayers for more. Swipe to see what the measure would cost you, where the money would go and what your vote means. Read our full 2026 voter guide at the link in bio.
No. They should look internally at their spending. Even if this passes. They will find another “crisis” they are in and threaten to shut down if they don’t get more money.

Combine the 147 city owned lots that have been deemed “ready for new or further development” with BART and the other transit orgs into a Hong Kong MTR-like publicly traded corporation that is ~75% owned by the city of San Fran then start building and let the rent from the new buildings pay for the transit. In a decade or two could easily start returning profits to the city rather than taking away tax dollars every year after year after year.

I would, but I don’t think sales tax is the right revenue. How about corporate tax, landlord tax, AI tax, etc.

100%. The economic damage from crippling service is likely to be far more expensive than the tax. Refusing to fund it over a minor tax increase is among the world’s dumbest, most avoidable footguns ever.

No on RTM. Transit is important, let’s fund it properly through revenues we’re already collecting.

voting no on RTM would be a more expensive tax. voting YES on RTM is to vote for a cheaper tax.
