@asaintaday: 🛡️ The Protector of Thessaloniki. – St Demetrius – October 26th St Demetrius of Thessaloniki is one of Christianity’s most beloved military saints, honoured as a courageous martyr, healer, and protector of his city. ——— More about St Demetrius: Demetrius lived during the Roman persecutions of the early fourth century. Holding a position of authority in Thessaloniki, he openly taught Christianity instead of suppressing it. His defiance brought imprisonment and death by soldiers’ spears. While imprisoned, he blessed the young Christian Nestor, who went on to defeat the feared arena fighter Lyaeus. Both men paid for their witness with their lives. Over the centuries, accounts of Demetrius appearing to defend Thessaloniki during sieges strengthened the city’s devotion to him. He is also known as the “Myrrh-streamer,” associated with fragrant oil and healings at his shrine. The great basilica dedicated to him remains one of Thessaloniki’s most treasured places of worship. ——— 🙏 Stand beside someone who needs support today. May St Demetrius inspire us to protect the vulnerable and remain faithful under pressure. ——— Music: In Dreams by Scott Buckley | www.scottbuckley.com.au Music promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/ Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ ——— #SteadfastHearts #BeSomeoneStrength #dailyinspiration #christianhistory
