Animal care attendant here. She probably doesn't like the litter. If she never had these types of accidents before then it could be a sign of stress.

My cat needed a box 2x bigger than what we had. $37 on amazon later and no more messes lmao

Put her bowl on a tray where she’s going (after cleaning really well of course). In general, they don’t go where they eat. Consider lining the floor around her box with pet pads in case she has an angle problem/flat preference. Just some potential help mileage may vary

Could be stress. Could be constipated. It’s possible it’s harder for her to brace on the litter shifting beneath her feet? I’d recommend a check up if she hasn’t had one for this yet! (I didn’t read all the comments in case this has been answered )

It’s either the litter or the box. I went through this with my late kitty Colby for the better part of a year 😩. I ended up buying him a low-profile, open litter box( he didn’t like canopied boxes)and went through 3 litters before I found one he liked. Trial and error will be the way to go. Good luck 🍀

I don’t think Jennifer knows she exists 😅 but yea check the litter and the box size… my cat basically has a studio apartment as a litter box

My friend’s cat would do this too and she had gotten the cat different litter, multiple boxes, clean the box after every time. In the end, she decided that the cat was just doing it to assert dominance

Check litter (maybe it hurts her paws), litter box size, and if she’s pooping in the same spot on the floor maybe she wants another litter box in that area?

There could be many different reasons. Scented or unscented litter? What is the box made of? Is it enclosed and does it have a door? Was there ever an instance where it got cleaned late and this behavior began after that? Has the litter box been in the same location or moved before this began?

I changed litter type after using same brand for several years. My kitty started going outside box until I switched back.

it's probably the litter your using, sometimes it will get in-between their pads and hurt them she obviously is trying to use the box

Our cat suddenly started to do this, just using a pile of cloths, the nice long ply rug or a pillow in the storage room. We added a 3rd litter box in a new location with different litter and he has been using that every day since. We removed the rug he was using for a few days.. gonna try putting the rug back now he’s using the box again.

are you using a robo liter box? or a covered one? cats hate them. make sure you clean the area where she pooped really well, or else the smell will draw them back

😏 It’s likely the type of material in the litter box might be the wrong type for the little ones preferred “toilet” and it would be smart to try other options for the litter box…
