@rgv_times: REPORT: McAllen is getting its direct link to Mexico City back. Mayor Javier Villalobos, announced on Facebook that the nonstop service between McAllen International Airport and Mexico City’s Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) is returning after nearly a year of suspension. “Mexico City, we’re back on!!!” Villalobos wrote, thanking U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz for their work to restore the route. He called it “a much needed flight that was carrying at a high capacity.” The Aeroméxico service, which launched in February 2024, was McAllen’s only nonstop connection to the Mexico City area. It stopped operating in November 2025 after the U.S. Department of Transportation canceled several Mexican-carrier routes amid a dispute over the 2015 U.S.-Mexico air transport agreement. On October 16, 2026, the DOT lifted those restrictions with immediate effect, reopening the door for Mexican airlines to resume and expand service from both AIFA and Mexico City’s main airport (AICM). The flight had been a strong performer for business travelers, families, and tourism across the Rio Grande Valley. Local officials previously estimated the route generated meaningful economic activity for the region. A specific restart date and schedule have not yet been confirmed by the airline. #Texas #RGV #RioGrandeValley #McAllenTX #BrownsvilleTX
