I was with an emotionally immature man for 20 years, I would say he’s a covert narcissist. Intentions are not relevant if it is a continued pattern of behavior. If You are dealing with a man who exhibits any of these examples, if you can leave, leave. Because no amount of softness, no amount of rephrasing your question, no amount of love and understanding will change their behavior if they do not want to change. They are not emotionally safe, and should not be in relationships until they get themselves the help that they need.

I'm married to one of these men and I've been dealing with it for over 6 and a 1/2 years, and even though I'm hardcore on honoring my vows and standing on my beliefs, I wish every day I should have left or would have left. It's to the point where I lost my identity. I'm spiritually, mentally and emotionally numb. I feel like I'm just an object. Existing barely surviving. But I talk to god and I pray that he helps me develop the strength and the courage to leave and give me what I need to redefine myself as a woman again
