@jola.jovani: The Invisible Load Audit was made with this exact issue in mind. Loving on your partner should feel special to them and is something that goes beyond all the tasks necessary to survive or function in a home
doing housework and acting like it's an act of service is actually insulting because it feels like "this is your work but I'm doing it to help you" instead of being an adult and taking care of your shared space.

Housework is not something you do for somebody else. It’s your responsibility. It doesn’t make a woman feel good if you dust a chair if you want to do something for her do it for her personally not for the house.

Doing housework in a household you are jointly part of it NOT an act of service. The issue isn’t acts of service it’s your belief that you’re doing housework “for her” ???

So it’s not about how much he works and sacrifice to build a home for the family. The only thing that matters is how she interpret it and she must feel it’s just for her?

Alyssa Wade :
Men & women have different opinions on what’s “for you”. To a woman, doing the dishes isn’t personal. She’s not doing them for her husband, she does the dishes because functionally: we need clean dishes to use. But when a husband does the dishes, he thinks he’s doing it “for her” specifically. She doesn’t receive it that way.

yep, you can say I cleaned the bathroom and I'll say ok.... but if you say I cleaned the bathroom put a towel on the rack for you and your robe, lit some candles and made you an epsom salt bath, that's going to get you some big praise because you did something for the house and then thought how can I have my partner enjoy the work I did.

so is it healthy for a husband whose wife cooks for him and the family evey day to interpret that as just basic house chores and her being a grown adult?

If my daughter makes me a cup of tea, or my husband rubs my feet, that makes me feel loved. Starting the dishwasher does not.

if he feeds my pets and cooks me dinner, that's acts of service. taking out the trash and caring for the kids are not.

“I seen” is never correct. :
Right? Unloading the dishwasher isn’t doing something for ME. Folding laundry isn’t doing something for ME. We both live here. We both work. We’re both parents.

If it’s a household chore it’s not “for her” that assumes that the chores are “hers” instead of everyone’s/the households. That in an of its self is a PROBLEM

I think that men and women maybe have very different ideas about what acts of service is. For men their ideas of it is doing the housework that they probably should already be doing. Examples may be; doing the laundry occasionally, cooking dinner occasionally, sweeping and mopping the floors occasionally, ect. For women it's doing things that you know your partner likes, or maybe what they commonly do to help take something off of their plate. Examples; taking them to their favourite restaurant for a dinner date where they don't have to plan it or organise, organise a trip away to a place they have wanted to go and organise it all, bake them their favourite cake or dessert and clean up after, ect.

housework isn't acts of service though. getting them a plate or cup or something as simple as covering them with a blanket or taking the time to bring them a coffee at work. those are acts of service to me. not dishes and trash

"Love languages" aren't even a valid psychological thing. It's pop-psychology that's catchy but has no data to actually back it up. It's complete garbage and I wish people would stop buying into that nonsense because it hurts relationships to hold that narrative.

If the tasks you do ‘for’ your partner or family are things you would also need to do it you lived alone, then you are simply doing those things because they need to be done.

doing housework is not "doing something for your wife" it's being a functioning adult in a shared home. you're not doing anyone any favors doing laundry. you're being an accountability adult.

Wow I realized I’ve always said acts of service is my love language but it’s because my husband wouldn’t do anything. So I had to literally say “I feel unloved” in order to get him to do very basic chores. I really felt unloved because he was putting the weight of everything on my shoulders and didn’t seem to care that I was drowning. The bare minimum is doing adult tasks. That’s not love
