Why not just leave the lag in there for extra strength it's not like you're using them to build a whole house, so it's not gonna cost that much.

I don’t do construction or anything with nails. Can someone explain to me how the nails that he shoots in there that are under tension opposite the direction they were shot, what keeps them from just pulling out? There’s no threads and nails pull out rather easy. I’ve never understood this part of construction.
