There is no missing dollar. The room was $25, gave each one of them a dollar back which equals 28, and the bellhop pocketed $2 which equals $30. You’re just wording it weird.

they each paid $10 so that is $30 then he gave them back $5 dollars so that make the room $25 so each one ended up paying $8.33. it doesn't matter that the bell hop only gave them $1 dollars each and took the other $2 dollars for himself that $2 dollars is still part of the $5 dollars he was supposed to give them.$30-5= 25÷3=$8.33 total each

if the bill is 25 that means each guest paid 8.33 each, their chang should have been 1.67 person. the bell hop gave them 1 dollar each which means he kept .67 cents person. the missing dollar was split between the woman unknowingly because their bill wasn't 9 dollars each it was 8.33 and when the bell hop gave them 1 dollar each he technically only gave each person 67 cents.
