Elizabeth Mascarelli, 29, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the aggravated manslaughter and dismemberment of 56-year-old Kerry Rollason in Toms River, New Jersey. Mascarelli pleaded guilty in December 2024 after shooting Rollason three times on July 3, 2024, then dismembering his body with the help of housemates. His remains were found in plastic bags on July 12. Mascarelli apologized at her sentencing, but Assistant Prosecutor Julie Peterson stated the victim’s family felt she didn’t grasp the gravity of her actions. Evidence included a “trophy photo” of Rollason with a hatchet in his chest on Mascarelli’s phone. Mascarelli was arrested on July 5 after a standoff at Rollason’s home, where she and fugitive Maxwell Johnston, a murder suspect, shared explicit social media posts. Johnston later died by suicide. Housemates Danielle Bolstad and Jared Krysiak pleaded guilty to desecration of remains, while Jared Palumbo admitted to hindering apprehension. Mascarelli’s lawyer argued she was coerced by Johnston, but Judge Guy P. Ryan emphasized her criminal history and reckless actions, stating her guilty plea didn’t warrant leniency. He sentenced her to 25 years, calling the crime “horrific” and “inhumane.”
