@ladyspinedoc: Osteoporosis is often called the silent disease because bone loss occurs without symptoms until a fracture happens. 🦴 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over age 50 will experience an osteoporotic fracture during their remaining lifetime. 🦴 Your spine is especially vulnerable. Osteoporosis can cause vertebral compression fractures, leading to sudden back pain, loss of height, and a hunched posture (kyphosis). 🦴 Not all spinal fractures are painful. Some vertebral fractures go completely unnoticed until they’re discovered on imaging. 🦴 Menopause matters. Declining estrogen levels accelerate bone loss, increasing fracture risk. 🦴 Screening saves bones. Women 65 and older, and younger postmenopausal women with risk factors, should undergo bone density screening with a DXA scan. Men should discuss individualized screening with their healthcare provider. 💪 What can you do to protect your bones? ✅ Prioritize calcium and vitamin D intake. ✅ Incorporate weight-bearing and resistance exercises. ✅ Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. ✅ Know your risk factors and get screened when appropriate. ✅ Ask about osteoporosis medications if you have low bone density or a history of fragility fractures. #WorldOsteoporosisDay #OsteoporosisAwareness #BoneHealth
