@the_exclusive_press: Six Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers have been linked to an alleged racist group chat containing offensive messages, including racial slurs and discussions about a competition to target and pull over Black drivers. The six officers are Mateo Juarez, Joseph Kelly, Tredan Maronic, Matthew Osborn, Alexander Larsen, and Jeremiah Todman. According to reports from QC News, the messages were discovered during an investigation into former officer Seth Elliott’s alleged misuse of law enforcement technology. Elliott eventually resigned in August. CMPD moved to terminate six officers on October 9. As of October 20, six officers had resigned, while Todman remained suspended without pay pending further proceedings. The officers have not been reported to face criminal charges related to the racist text messages. The investigation remains ongoing. 📸: Ashley Mahoney/Axios, WCCB Charlotte, Shutterstock
