What if things could have been different? What if we had made different choices, said the words we kept inside, and stayed when leaving felt easier? What if some moments were never meant to end, and some people were never meant to become memories? Sometimes I wonder about all the possibilities that existed between one moment and another. About the conversations we never had, the chances we never took, and the paths we almost chose. I wonder what life would look like if we had known then what we know now. Maybe there was another version of everything waiting for us somewhere — a version where nothing went wrong, where we understood each other a little better, where we held on a little longer. Maybe that version never existed, or maybe it exists only in the quiet parts of our minds. And perhaps that is what makes “what if?” so painful. It has no ending, no answer, and no way to go back and find out. It simply stays there, somewhere between what happened and what could have happened. Maybe I will never know. Maybe I’m not supposed to. But sometimes, when everything becomes quiet, I still find myself wondering… What if?
