We stayed at an Airbnb at the beginning of this month. On the second night (after substantial rain in the area) we noticed the bathroom towels in our daughter’s room were wet. Sure enough looked up behind a beam and there was mold and rotting wood. After investigating further we saw mold spores on the ceiling in the dining area as well. Both locations required us to contort our bodies to see. After messaging the host with photos and informing them that we’d be checking out as soon as possible the host went from being polite to pretty rude remarks. Luckily we were able to find another home around the same area to move to. After dealing with Airbnb support, the host and our travel insurance we still lost almost half of what we paid for the stay (7 night booking) the host also left a poor review stating we were over exaggerating the mold issue that it was in a storage area and was just brown paint. Airbnb refused to remove their review. We have used Airbnb for nearly 8 years now so one bad host won’t deter us but definitely a lesson learned to thoroughly inspect each home before unpacking.

some of that damage isn't even possible to have "just happened" look at that rust. thats older even than the three weeks, significantly. the metal shelf is literally turning to dust.

Pools are really hard to maintain that’s why the vacation rental company I worked for refuses to manage properties that have a pool that being said if your renting I property that has a pool you better make sure it’s in perfect working condition before any guests check in if you don’t like spending the extra money on that don’t rent a property with a pool

i rented a air bnb for my bridesmaids in vegas (bachelorette trip) and specifically booked a house with a pool and hot tub only for them both to be broken 😡

This happened to me with a property. I was gaslit that the host was learning for the first time there was a dumpster blocking the designated carport for the unit I rented. It was mentioned in 4 recent reviews so not sure why these people think lying is okay. Just update your freakin listing descriptions.

There needs to be better vetting and rules for hosts. I was injured at an air bnb recently and the behaviour of the host was worse than the trip to a&e!

I work in pool matnince a lot of my clients are Airbnbs and they are almost always the cheapest customers. I’ve seen everything form waterlogged covers dumping foam into the water for months probably molding inside the plastic to multi year old filters
