@mama_c_just_sayin: JUSTICE, COMPASSION, AND THE POSSIBILITY OF HEALING As I reflect on William Reaves Jr. and the life he took, my thoughts are not about celebrating another death. They’re about healing. Healing for the family of the victim, whose loss can never be undone. Healing for the family of William Reaves Jr., who have endured their own pain and grief. And peace and healing for his soul. I do not believe in capital punishment. That does not mean I excuse murder, diminish the suffering of victims, or believe people should escape accountability for their actions. It means I believe that justice should be about more than punishment. It should also leave room for humanity, compassion, and healing. Taking another life cannot bring back the one that was lost. I can believe someone deserves to be held accountable without believing the state should have the power to take their life. My hope is that both families can find some measure of peace. Because justice and revenge are not the same thing. #WilliamReavesJr #truecrime #fyp #Truecrime #truecrimecommunity

I think if they received the dp, it should be done in the first 5 years of their sentence. Right now, the way it is, the inmate basically gets life. That is not fair for the victims family.

this is sad I mean 77 years old? I know he had to be held accountable for his crimes but this is just heartbreaking I don't want to take away from the victim or their family but if they haven't gotten healing just knowing he was in prison all these years they never will. should have just let him live his life out what little he had left. not only should their be no DP but absolutely not at that age and a vet at that in my opinion they should have just let him live. it's because it was a police officer for sure guarantee it.

I think 40 years on death row is punishment. why kill him at age 70, he was already on his way out of this world.

Yes, you are taken away from them. That’s the main problem with these people they committed murder. They need to pay the ultimate price for that betrayal of taking them life.

I think the death penalty is hard for both sides, the victim and the offender

How dumb that it took 40 years. Isn't that a form of mental torture? Surely after 40 years he would be a completely different person than he was when he committed the crime. It's also awful for the victims family to have to wait that long. If they're gonna do it, it shouldn't take that long.

You don’t see it because it’s not your loved one. closure for many people come in different forms. The man he chilled was only 29 yrs old and had a hole lifetime taken from him. The 29 year old man was being nice and was there to pick him up because Reaves couldn’t get a taxi to come get him. The 29 year old man already gave himself up to fellow Americans ever day that he went to work and his life was taken all over not getting a taxi ride. RIP Richard Raczkoski, Deputy EOW Sept 24, 1986. No one wants to see anyone being taken from this earth violently as Richard was but Reaves was sent on his way in a much more peaceful way then Richard did. Plz don’t take this as anger because I am not, just stating facts. William did suffer from PTSD from being a service member whom also put his life on the line for American’s and I’m grateful for his service. However, he had PTSD and carried a weapon that fell out of his shorts, any officer would scramble to get his gun. Sad tragedy but life has consequences. Reaves himself acknowledged he had been using cocaine and panicked during the confrontation. I understand what PTSD can do to someone and it’s incredibly sad.

No one should be on death row for over 10 yts. Get it done. Did his victim get an extra 40 yrs of life?
