@singaporeparents: A local restaurant faced online backlash after sharing a post about parents leaving an "unbelievable mess." Netizens defended the family, pointing out the table looked like a normal post-meal scene with children. The establishment has since deleted the post, and explained that their aim was to encourage consideration. "Our intention was never to shame or call out anyone, but simply to raise awareness and encourage greater consideration," they wrote. This entire exchange brings up a fair conversation for us as parents. How much tidying up is expected of us when we dine out with our kids? 📩 Got a tip-off, story, or event? i understand kids can be messy. but mess can be cleaned up.
was anything permanently damaged? doesnt seem like it. even if yes, the restaurant can just bill the parents about it

I think if a person working in f&b cannot handle clean up for guests after service , then don’t enter the service line.

My Precious Baby ☺️ :
I always clean up the table and floor a little bit when my baby spills food. My wife also refuses to leave unless she cleans up the spilled rice on the floor. We do not like to inconvenience others and also hope to set a good example for my kid. 😊

Do the owners even have kids of their own? That is not a “big” mess. Great way to discourage families to your establishment.

I do think parents can help to make it less messy. This is especially because there is no service fees.

I’m not married and I don’t have children. But I’d think that when parents go out to eat, it’s also because it’s convenient and it’s a time they can breathe instead of fussing about the mess at home. It’s their only time to breathe and “relax” a little more. I don’t see what’s the big deal since cleaning is part of the job at F&B

personally i understand how both feels; customers regardless paying service fees anot shouldnt be under too much pressure abt cleaning up cuz thats the whole point of eating out instead of at home. but as a former fnb service worker i understand the frustration of peak hours and queues + cleaning up for next guests.. so honestly i just do the in between - ensure messes are contained and at one side so its easier for them to clean up everything one shot while not having too much pressure on tidying up the area 🫤 just my personal 2 cents~

What is your take on this? On the flipside, have you encountered dining establishments that are exceptionally welcoming to families?

Ppl come to restaurant so no need to clean up mess. That's why pay for the meals and service. If don't like mess, don't open f&b business

I feel it is very important for parents to at least clean up a little bit after themselves when dining out, they dont have to necessarily bring a broom and a mop, they just have to be mindful of how they eat through out the time they dine, careful not to cause so much spillage, and if there’s water spilled on the floor, make sure to inform staff about it so they can be prepared during a rush hour, because kids will learn from them, not just for the sake of consideration for fnb staff, but also to be good examples for their own children and show table manners, to teach children to also be sympathetic and not self centered

A restaurant is for dining, not for “learning how to eat” or “playing”, so for me; any mess that kids leave which is usually to learn how to eat or play, should be handled by the parents.

The price of the food is paying for the services. I am sure the restaurant included it in the cost of labour. Then ppl should just start bringing broom as well.
