@ifreakinlovelife: Yellow-headed caracara I was enamored by a Gray Hawk (coming soon) when, from the corner of my eye, I saw some “thing” move in a nearby tree. I couldn’t tell if it was big or small at first but just a few turns and steps- Boom. The Yellow-headed caracara almostttt blending into the trees. I was definitely in a wild wonderland in those moments. From the white-throated magpie-jays (also coming soon) harassing the unbothered hawk on the hunt and me patiently waiting for it to attack.. to the next lifer that would show up in my experience. So rad. This is the bird that was visited LA a couple of years ago that I had missed :) The yellow-headed caracara is native to Central and South America. Unlike many raptors, these birds spend a lot of time walking around on the ground, searching for insects, small animals, and whatever else looks like an easy meal. They also eat ticks directly off large mammals (thank you). Have you seen this bird and where did you see it?!👇 👇 • •
