@prairiecarrie: - I run into this issue of people not being able to keep their word, and I’m talking beyond just men. Literally everyone is seemingly struggling to keep the words spoken from their own mouth. Which is actually so sad… Like, what the fuck are we doing? I know, as someone who struggles with a few mental health issues myself, that broken promises and no follow through can be very discouraging. We were taught that actions mean more than words, so why do so many people struggle? It seems fairly simple. You tell someone you’re going to do something. You do it. Now, I understand things can happen, buuut that’s where open communication comes in. It takes literally no time to let someone know that you can no longer uphold your word. I think a lot of the problem is we can’t even keep our word to ourselves. We tell ourselves that we are gonna go to the gym or do that thing, but when push comes to shove, we often times don’t even start. So… then what? How do we fix this? Well, we must start small, because big commitments seem to scare people. So how about we start telling people no, because in case you weren’t aware, that is a complete sentence. I also think being able to say no because you can’t keep your word is more respectable than agreeing to something you’re not sure you can do. Say less, mean more. And when life happens, because let’s face it… it always happens, SAY something. Don’t go ghost and come back three weeks later with shitty excuses. We’re adults. Again, it takes no time to let someone know that something changed. Now, I know I said not just men, so you’re probably expecting a story about a friend, but not this week. So this man, let’s call him… Jack. Jack actually brought me out of my retirement of talking to people. A little backstory: we matched on… Tinder (I had a problem, I’m well aware). When we first matched, he lived an hour away from me, and then we took it off Tinder and onto text messages. I ended up ghosting because, well, I really wasn’t ready for what I thought I wanted. Fast forward a year later, and he texts me, and we start talking again, and everything is going fine… sorta. He was very hard to have a conversation with, because he claimed he was never on his phone at work… now, that very well could be true, but for like 14+ hours a day straight with no breaks? Let’s be realistic. He also lacked curiosity about me. When I addressed this with him, he got defensive, and then ghosted. That led me down the rabbit hole of meeting Nick from post one… YIKES. Anyway, fast forward to the beginning of August, and Jack comes back around yet again (I always think people have the capability of change), and this time it felt slightly more intentional. I did something I had never done before… I sent him my entire month’s schedule, because he made it sound like he was going to make time to see me, and I told him my life had gotten a little hectic, so here’s everything I have going on this month, so he could plan accordingly. Now, being the lover girl I am, I was fully ready for the actions, but they never came. In fact, he went ghost for a week and tried to come back like nothing happened, and got defensive again when I wasn’t playing along. He swore up and down that he had told me he was going on a cruise, and I was very adamant that we did not have that conversation. So eventually he goes ghost again because he did not like that I called him out for not communicating. Which ultimately led to him ghosting… again, but this time he made it to the graveyard, and there’s no coming back from that. 😉 Now, with all that said, and Jack lowkey being a jackass, I have had to hold myself to this same standard, whether that be having difficult conversations or showing up when I said I was going to. So maybe the solution isn’t complicated but in fact very easy, if you care about how you make people feel. Maybe it’s just: say less, follow through more, and communicate openly. Though it is simple, it is not always easy. XOXO, Prairie Carrie 💋
