There are certain things in life you can understand intellectually, but you don't truly appreciate them until you experience them yourself. You know that life is temporary. But losing someone you love makes you realise just how little time we actually have with the people around us. You know that not everyone can be trusted. But being betrayed by someone you genuinely believed in teaches you how painful it can be to place your trust in the wrong person. And you know that life doesn't always go according to plan. But it's only when something you desperately wanted falls apart that you begin to understand how little control you really have. I think some of the most important lessons we learn come from experiences we would never have chosen for ourselves. And when you're going through them, it's difficult to see anything beyond the pain you're experiencing. But over time, those experiences can change the way you look at things. You become more conscious of how you treat the people you love. You learn to appreciate things you once took for granted. You become more careful about where you place your trust. And sometimes, you develop a level of patience and resilience you didn't know you were capable of. That doesn't mean every painful experience happens for a reason you'll eventually understand. Or that you have to be grateful for the hurt someone caused you. But it does mean that even the most difficult experiences can teach you something valuable about yourself, other people and the temporary nature of this life. And I think one of the greatest blessings is being able to take those lessons forward without allowing the pain to make you bitter. Let what you've been through make you wiser, more compassionate and more appreciative of what you still have. Because you can't always choose what life teaches you. But you can choose what you do with the lessons you've learnt.
