Is bail set arraignment? Or is it a separate hearing for bail? Or does it depend on jurisdiction

Yes so well said! I say almost the exact same thing when I’m meeting with my clients for the first time

Del Caraway :
Our office upstate was one of the first to fight for centralized arraignment parts - ILS has been great at making sure CAFA assurances are met here: Everyone that gets arrested in the county gets diverted to the specialized arraignment court twice each day. Before that we were driving all over the friggen county at all hours of the night (I feel like a “get off my lawn” PD predating CAFA pushes lol)! During Covid, judges and prosecutors appeared mostly virtually - and for a while county, prosecutors were literally appearing by phone. Explaining to someone who might be held that the prosecutor was literally phoning it in was a friggen experience! I will say this though - being able to meet one on one and help clients get access to needed services prior to getting. Now we have on staff social workers and treatment specialist and we can intervene early! #pubdefs4life
