@the.redemptionarc: While driving to work the other morning, a single word randomly popped into my head: NEGATIVITY. Sitting behind the wheel, it felt like a heavy word for God to drop in my lap, but I knew He had a reason. The true definition of negativity is "an attitude or mental state that focuses on pessimism, skepticism, and the bad aspects of a situation rather than the good." And if I am being completely honest with you... after the season I've been through, it was so hard not to be negative. For weeks, it felt like I was hitting roadblock after roadblock mentally. Simple, everyday things felt like a struggle, and it felt like nothing was going right. The only place where I wasn't carrying that heavy pessimism was inside my prayer closet. When you get hurt repeatedly, negativity becomes a shield. You start expecting the worst just so you won't be caught off guard when another bad thing happens. But sitting in that car, God reminded me of the antidote: Look up. Negativity keeps your eyes locked on the ground, counting the rocks and potholes in front of you. Looking up to God shifts your focus off the bad aspects of this broken world and places it back onto His unfailing goodness.
