@diananova9: My Live highlight from Kilauea Volcano's 55th eruptive episode! Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park- October 17, 2026. This marked the end of a 52 day pause, the longest period of rest since the current fountaining cycle began in late 2024! The event was short and intense, beginning at 3:19 a.m. and abruptly stopping under 6 hours later at 9:03 a.m. Molten lava erupted continuously from the north vent inside Halemaʻumaʻu crater, reaching a spectacular maximum height of 720 feet (220 meters). The fast moving flows blanketed roughly 75% of the crater floor with an estimated 7 to 9 million cubic yards of new lava! The massive volcanic plume rose to an estimated 25,000 feet (7,500 meters) above sea level. Blown by north/northeast winds, the plume carried volcanic gases, ash (tephra), and Pele's hair southwest over a closed, unpopulated section of the park. Following the abrupt end of the fountaining, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory lowered the volcano alert status, though the summit immediately began re-inflating in preparation for the next event.
