I teach preschool. i was asked to be emergency foster home for a 3 year old student of mine. i did it for a week before i had to tell the caseworker i was done, my 3 children were miserable from the hours of screaming all night. i had to go through the morning like nothing was wrong even though I knew the caseworker was coming to remove her. I threw up it made me feel so awful.

Working in a low income community shook me. My first year teaching and one of my students watched his mom get shot and died in front of him was awful. I had to pretend that it was okay.

I held a little girl’s hand as she took her last breath after being hit by a car one early morning before school. I held her close and prayed over her, staying with her until the very end. Afterwards, I walked back into the school with her blood still on my hands. And then reality hit me. I had about ten minutes before I had to be in my classroom because my whole class was waiting for their teacher. That was one of the worst days of my life. Standing in front of my little ones, knowing that one of their friends would never play with them again, never grow up alongside them, and never get the chance to experience all the little things that childhood should hold. I had to face a classroom full of children while carrying the weight of knowing that one little life had come to an end, and that nothing would ever be quite the same for those who loved her.

lost 2 of my learners, they were twins, in grade 1. family attended church and on their way back was in a car accident. parents survived but all 3 their children passed away in the accident.

A close friends daughter unalived herself and was found at 6 am. But the show had to go on until I was finished teaching for the day. It happened yesterday.

When my Oma died, my principal came in to talk to my kids and said I might be sad today and they might even see me cry. The. She reassured them I’m okay and I just miss my Oma. And asked them to be extra nice to me today

Had a student swallow half a bottle of painkillers in the toilet while I was teaching secondary Y9 maths, walked her to the nurse to get help, where I stayed for five mins at the request of the student, afterward was told off by SLT for leaving my classroom and because I was upset I was“being too emotional”. Before then teaching another four hours

The morning of the 1st day of school, a colleague went to set up his classroom, had everything ready for students to arrive and then left shortly before school started to commit suicide at his house across the street from our Elementary. What made it worse....it was supposed to be my daughter's teacher.

My boss came into my classroom during recess to tell me that one of my students had died the night before. Then I was expected to share the news with my class and continue teaching. I thought working at a private Christian school meant I would have support in a moment like that, but I was given none. I’ll never forget how my boss made me feel that day. I was left to carry my own grief while trying to explain the unimaginable to 29 little 7 year old hearts who couldn’t understand why their friend wasn’t coming back to school. I deserved support. Instead, we were all left to navigate a heartbreak no one should have had to face alone. 💔
