@ericalzablon: The correlation between the crank position sensor (CKP) and the crank position sensor (CMP) allows the ECU to verify the synchronization between the crank and the crankshafts. The CKP reports the angular position and engine revolutions, while the CMP identifies the combustion cycle phase, allowing the ECU to recognize which cylinder is in its corresponding race. With both signals, the ECU determines the injection and ignition sequence according to the manufacturer's strategy. During the diagnosis with an oscilloscope, the CKP and CMP signals are observed simultaneously to verify their phase relationship. The reference of the missing teeth of the crankshaft must coincide with a specific position of the CMP signal, established by the manufacturer. A variation in this relationship may indicate a stretched timing chain, an out-of-balance belt, a defective tensioner, a VVT variable out of position, or problems with the sensor signals. It is not enough for both sensors to produce electrical signals: they must maintain the correct angular synchronization. When the ECU detects a correlation outside the allowed range, codes such as P0016, P0017, P0018, or P0019 may appear, depending on the engine and the monitored crankshafts. In the workshop, the test consists of capturing the signals with an oscilloscope, identifying the CKP reference point, and measuring its angular separation from the corresponding CMP flank. This measurement must be compared with a reference wave form of the same engine, under equivalent conditions. If there is a displacement, the mechanical synchronization must be verified first, followed by the operation of the VVT system, when equipped. #fyp #viral #tiktok
